that one of my old heros, The Good Doctor Thompson, was going to be writing a column for ESPN I was very afraid. Afraid he’d lost his edge, or his sanity, or both. Afraid that he’d seem vaguely silly in the context of big money sports, out touch. That the man whose best conversations with Nixon were about the NFL was past his prime.
His first column pretty much confirmed this for me, but ever since he’s been much closer to regaining his stride. And in today’s column about the NFL, diminished talent pools, and the election I think he’s very close to being at the top of his game. It’s pretty subdued for HST, but pretty good nonetheless.
like this opinion piece about the General election is what passes for news at the National Post. Keep it on the editorial pages, and even there do a better job. Cause what passed for news today is nothing but unveiled vitriol.
is a Bell Sympatico High Speed (DSL) system from the phone company (sort of). It’s OK overall, but twice in the last month the system totally crapped out on me: during the US election results broadcast on Nov. 7, and Monday night while I was trying to track the Canadian election returns.
My question: what exactly is the point if they can’t handle the load? It’s cheap for cable or DSL here – my current deal is $35 for the service and 120 minutes of long distance. And due to that low price, Quebec has the highest penetration of high speed internet access in the world. But still – it’s gotta work. The really big problem, though? I can’t go to a competitor.
