Much weirdness

March 18, 2000 by Michael Boyle

at Wired News today. There’s this piece about a fake stalker’s site, a piece about how Amazon really doesn’t support right-to-lifers, and inside that a reference to a hoax about Procter & Gamble. Of course the definitive site about internet hoaxes is the CIAC site, by (?!) the US Dep’t of Energy.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

March 17, 2000 by Michael Boyle

There’s a ghost who came out this morning – actually she comes out every St. Patrick’s day – just down the street from my office. But I can’t find a site with the story. But there is a St Patrick’s day ghost in Montreal, specifically in Griffintown, an old Irish area of the city that no longer really exists. Thousands of Irish immigrants died in the 1840s-50s in Grosse Ile and in Pointe St. Charles, just over the bridge from where I’m sitting.

This is happening:

March 17, 2000 by Michael Boyle

Who: passerby, Ed’s weblog, harrumph!, mikel, Eleven Seconds.

What: The First Spectacular Montreal Webloggers 5 à 7 (or something like that).

When: Tuesday, March 21, 6pm (“5 à 7” is the category of soirée, not the time!) or so – any time is good though if 6 is too early.

Where: Else’s Bar. Roy corner de Bullion, on the South East corner. One of the loveliest bars on the planet.

Hope everyone can make it. If there’s any doubt about which table to join, just ask for me at the bar, I’m known to most of the staff at Else’s, for better or worse. In fact I’m going there right now for my traditional Friday after-work drink.

Webby nomination!

March 16, 2000 by Michael Boyle

I just found out that Café Utne, a site I’ve worked on for almost 5 years, has been nominated for a Webby award in the Community category. It’s a little strange in that the category is a bit of a dog’s breakfast of totally different types of sites. But pretty cool. I’ve literally spent thousands of hours there, and it’s my primary online home. I mean, other than this!

It’s O’Hare.

March 16, 2000 by Michael Boyle

Heather writes about a 19 hour travel ordeal at harrumph!. I had a 17 hour marathon myself on my way down to Anaheim, and I was stuck in Chicago as well. Luckily, I found the bar at the O’Hare Hilton. Also lucky was to make $450 in travel vouchers from United.
