Spooky and outrageous:

Photographer arrested for taking pictures of Vice President’s hotel in 2600 News. Check the last bit: “Maginnis’s lawyer contacted the Denver Police Department for an explanation of the day’s events, but the police denied ever having Maginnis – or anyone matching his description – in custody.”

Doc Searls covers radio very well,

and today he points to a San Antonio Current article about Clear Channel that demonstrates a point I’ve been making for years. The CDA was NOT the worst part of the Telecom Reform Act. It was a smoke screen to divert attention from the negative effects of the concentration of media ownership, which is much more efficient by any measure than overt censorship at ensuring that diverse views go unheard, unpublished.

the transcript of Eldred v. Ashcroft. Maybe I should have been a lawyer after all. I find this side of things fascinating.

I have long admired

I have long admired

John Perry Barlow even though his writing has very often driven me nuts. On Boing Boing today, though, new contributor Xeni posted a letter from the Barlowfriendz list that I think is worthy of note and consideration. Barlow starts out by responding, it seems, directly to my own complaint against his writing: “My old pal Mitch Kapor said years ago that what I needed was a ‘hyperbolectomy.’ Were such a procedure to exist, this would probably be a good time to get one, since I suddenly find myself incapable of discussing the present state of the American Experiment without veering off into Very Large Statements.” Barlow then continues with an article about the proposed war that is not only right on track but, amazingly, quite sober in the opinions it expresses. Amazingly not because Barlow’s a crank (he’s not), but that the current climate dictates that these things need to be said at all.

Just a reminder

Just a reminder

that for more updates on the (perhaps) seminal copyright extension case that was heard last week in the Supreme Court, you can take a look at the official Eldred v. Ashcroft website, which is a great resource.
