The AP is running a story

that may prove to be extremely significant in the coming US election: Flood of New Voters Signing Up. There are hundreds of variables in play, but if this trend converts even a little bit to increased voter turnout the impact will be significant. It likely means that polling so far has underrepresented Democrat support, possibly by a great deal.

Talking Points Memo comes the text of a letter from former President Jimmy Carter to Zell Miller, admonishing him for his shameful performance last week at the Republican convention. “…there are many of us loyal Democrats who feel uncomfortable in seeing that you have chosen the rich over the poor, unilateral preemptive war over a strong nation united with others for peace, lies and obfuscation over the truth, and the political technique of personal character assassination as a way to win elections or to garner a few moments of applause.”
