I just came across

June 5, 2001 by Michael Boyle

tvgohome for the first time tonight. As a friend described it, “As Monty Python is to the Smothers Brothers, tvgohome is to The Onion“.

The FAQ has a particularly funny bit: “Why use a JPEG for the listings instead of text?

Because I want precise control over the layout. And because it seriously annoys “real ale” Internet users who do all their browsing on text-based hand-held calculators, and that arouses me.”

Many of the shows on the CBC

have integrated their websites pretty well with the program. This morning I was listening to, uh, This Morning and they pointed me to Mir Facts: A collection of web links. In a way, supporting pages like this reconfigure one aspect of the show as weblog.

Just back from

Thanksgiving back at the homestead in Ottawa. I ate far too much turkey and stuff – as one would expect – and had a fantastic time. It’s weird when holidays here are on different days than in the US – cause on a day like today (cold and cloudy) I’d love to kick back and watch a movie on TV or something – but all that’s there (mostly) are the regular soaps and stuff. Maybe go shopping instead.

a very Eastern European day here today. More northern that the Balkans – more like the Baltics – but still. It’s drizzling and about 5 degrees here, which was exactly like it was during the entire time I spent in Latvia in December 94. And I got into work and there’s some leftover soft cheese and pat in the fridge that everyone’s digging into for breakfast – which was also what they served us in Latvia in the morning. Add some herring and grated carrots and the masquerade would be complete.

minding my own business when I passed by Peter Merholz’ site and found this link to a really fun site on McLuhan: McLuhan TV – Where Marshall McLuhan’s Words Come to Life. Cool. And in the spirit of sharing, I’ll link to Arthur Kroker’s excellent (and very densely packed) article, Digital Humanism: The Processed World of Marshall McLuhan.
