the Metafilter thread about Jakob Nielsen’s latest Alertbox article, but like Meg Hourihan I think I’ve mis-read Nielsen a bit, or misinterpreted him. And in my particular case I think I may have looked like an ass, although I stand by what I wrote there.
I can’t figure
out why everyone’s getting so worked up about the sale of Fuckedcompany on ebay. Not the Metafilter crew, really (they’re more than worldly enough to take this in stride), but the attention this has generated in the press seems just a little breathless to me. It’s like they’re trying to be all cool and cynical about it but are really quite appalled. Really though – pud is just taking the hack one step further towards its logical conclusion: he increases the site’s notoriety, sets up the site as its very own fucked company for whoever buys it (how pomo), and all the while keeps and enhances his own notoriety – after all, he can sell if for whatever he wants, but at the end of the day he’s still the guy who founded Fucked Company.
I just added some
sites to the list to the left. I actually do use that list to check the sites I enjoy – some I check more often, some less. They’re grouped in a very rough manner according to rough links I make between the sites. So, for instance, Matt Haughey‘s site is near MetaFilter. And the Montrealers are together. Like that. It’s not a ranking of any kind.
James Gleick wrote an article
about the problems with software patents that cover online practices and methods. It’s a pretty good article, though intended for an audience who’s never heard of the issue. [via MetaFilter]
Deepleap.org
Deepleap.org. As I wrote at Metafilter, the Deepleapers seem to be making a lot of really great moves.
