has posted the first Oscar predictions that I’ve seen since the list of nominees was announced this morning. Particularly funny:

Fernando Meirelles, City of God: I didn’t see it but I think the voters put a bunch of foreign director names in a hat and pulled out his. Kudos, Fernando.

On Friday, Cory at Boing Boing reported that the Whole Earth Review has gone bust. There’s still some hope that it will survive in some form, but nevertheless it’s too bad this crisis is occurring.

As most now know, MoveOn recently held an ad contest. Now that the winner has been determined, the organization wants to purchase time to air the ad during the Super Bowl. Advertising Age, however, notes that CBS is very non-committal about the ad, suggesting that it might not pass through their standards and practices office. Why that might be remains a mystery.

CNN is now posting what look to be full transcripts of their programming on their website. It’s not clear how long the archives will remain available on the site, but nevertheless it’s very cool development. Current blogging theory would suggest that CNN will become a more authoritative souce based on the increased accessibility of this material. It will be interesting to see if this differentiates them from other news networks in this way.

was a subscription to Maisonneuve magazine, a relatively new magazine out of Montreal that seems very promising. Now I have learned that Utne has nominated Maisonneuve as one of the best new titles of 2003 in the recent edition of its Indie Press Awards. Note that although I have been loosely associated with the Utne organization for about 8 years now, I had nothing whatsoever to do with the nomination!
