Things I like today:

May 8, 2000 by Michael Boyle

  • The expanding MetaFilter. To paraphrase you-know-who… it’s a platform!
  • My friend Buffy’s article about Médecins sans frontières in Outpost magazine.
  • O’Meara’s always engaging (and True) pile of words in Locals at Large: You’ve quit your job, you’ve been on a bender for two weeks and you and everybody you know have been circling each other like hungry dogs in the coliseum of love. In other words, it’s spring in Montreal.
  • The new Prolific and Swallowing Tacks designs.

I just got around

May 4, 2000 by Michael Boyle

to reading the Feed piece by Julien Dibbell about Jorn Barger. One of the things mentioned are “Wunderkammer” – European curiosity cabinets. That’s kind of odd, because one of our designers, Gilles, is doing his PhD dissertation on ‘cabinets de curiosits’ – wunderkammer. Weird coincidence.

Pentagon cracks down… on Powerpoint. “The spread of PowerPoint has unleashed a blizzard of jazzy but often incoherent visuals.”

Tonight

April 17, 2000 by Michael Boyle

I think its time for good old #990000 to make a comeback. That was the actual name of my editthispage design: 990000. But this one needs something more so it may come back and join me here. I have some icons ready to go, but that may not quite do it.

Will code for food:

March 1, 2000 by Michael Boyle

OK I’m not much of a designer – hardly at all, in fact. Nor am I much of a coder. But I’m officially coding for food. A friend of mine owns a restaurant (Nantha’s Cuisine, on Duluth at St-Laurent) whose site is terribly out of date, though the design is OK. I’m going to do updates and random work in exchange for dinner for 2 once a month.
