No one tops Gilles Vigneault

December 16, 2000 by Michael Boyle

, really, at describing Quebec. “Mon pays ce n’est pas un pays c’est l’hiver” is how he put it – roughly – my country isn’t a country, it’s winter.

We had over a foot of snow dump on us in the last week, today it’s warm and it might rain – leading to whispered concerns that we might have another ice storm like the great verglas of 1998.

And yet, and yet… things go on. Cheerfully. The pubs on St-Laurent were packed last night. Christmas shopping continues apace, amidst 24-hour-a-day snow removal that messes with parking, walking, driving – everything.

I really couldn’t imagine living anywhere else but here.

OK – I need some

December 12, 2000 by Michael Boyle

advice, if possible. I’m thinking of buying a firewire CD-RW this week. Sort of a Christmas present to myself – but also, I’m past due in terms of having a proper way to back up my machine. In the new year I plan on starting some ambitious projects – so I have to deal with that. If anyone has a recommendation I would appreciate it! Not much went on

December 9, 2000 by Michael Boyle

here yesterday – it ended up being a hyper work day. I woke up early and since a) I had a ton to do, and, b) I have office keys, I went in to work at about 7am. I hoped that I would be able to cut out early to get ready for our office Christmas/5th Anniversary party – but alas it wasn’t to be so.

But the party was fantastic anyway – we took over the largest and nicest club in Montreal for the night. It was pretty swanky, but although we’re getting bigger and stuff, we’re still a very DIY company. So no polished corporate promo stuff to get everyone pumped – just low-key, booze-fueled fun. Pass the tylenol.

Gotta love Montreal

November 17, 2000 by Michael Boyle

! In other cities people complain about Christmas starting too early. In Montreal people do something about it – they organize, plan, scheme… no idle chatter here. Uh, OK, it’s completely ridiculous, doing things like smearing shop windows with baby oil in protest. But we’re an activist city – we won’t take serious matters like decorating for Christmas too early lying down! The outrage of it all! [embarrassingly, this was found via Swallowing Tacks]
