Feeds and Feedburner

October 15, 2007 by Michael Boyle

The only real frustration I’ve had since switching to WordPress has been with feedburner. The disadvantage of not actually writing static files to disk is that it’s very difficult to validate each and every address that will get you to a particular feed. And of course I want feedburner to access one particular spot to slurp my feed and to declare the feedburner location in my headers so that no one else does. The worst part is that although there are at least 3 plugins that are supposed to deal with this and at least 6 detailed pages full of instructions on the web, nothing seems to have worked… but nevertheless, it does in fact seem to work, at least for the moment (it didn’t over the weekend).

So – now that comments are working on this blog again (thanks, WP!), if you (dear reader) could let me know if my feeds seem to be working for you (and at what address) I would very much appreciate it.

YULBlog on Montreal.tv

October 15, 2007 by Michael Boyle

I forgot to mention it last week, but at this month’s YULBlog First Wednesday there was a crew from montreal.tv doing a piece on the monthly event. Here’s the piece. I think it might have been the first time I have been recorded speaking French for a TV or radio piece! (Note to self: don’t back away from the mike in future).

Kapica on Canadian Data Rates

October 11, 2007 by Michael Boyle

The Globe and Mail’s Jack Kapica wrote a piece on Rogers data rates and the problems these pose in relation to bringing the iPhone to Canada. Take special note of the insulting comment from Rogers’ communications flack, who managed to both be inappropriately aggressive AND completely avoid the point of Kapica’s article. I wonder if mobile carriers – particularly those in Canada – will ever get it? Not only are they gouging their customers, but they’re leaving a ton of money on the table by completely underestimating the demand for wireless data in Canada.
