Zeldman provides an update on the Amazon situation he noted yesterday. It was all just a mistake – but I think he lets Amazon off a bit too easily. Each to his own, I guess.

Perhaps the most damning

February 19, 2004 by Michael Boyle

Perhaps the most damning

thing about the current Bush administration is that the times we’re living in demand serious discussion by serious people. People who are capable of making the most difficult personal choices correctly even when it is clearly against their self-interest. People who are able to put aside petty political concerns in favour of an honest assessment of what is the right thing to do. People who don’t rail against (and route around) the difficulty of a certain task but who work within established norms and do it anyway.

By any standard, the senior members of the Bush administration are clearly not serious people. Daniel Ellsberg, by contrast, is a serious person and has proven it again and again in his 72 years. And he’s mad as hell about how these unserious people are lining up to besmirch the character of John Kerry today in the Salon Interview with Daniel Ellsberg. A pithy quote: “So for these guys, who never served in action when they had a chance, to criticize Kerry now, it’s just appalling… it’s just an obscenity.”
