A quick question:

July 21, 2004 by Michael Boyle

A quick question:

Why do all ad/marketing/pr/web agency sites suck? For both personal and professional reasons I browse such sites on a regular basis, and the ONLY reaction they give me is to completely lose confidence that they have the slightest clue what they are doing.

There are exceptions, generally among very small shops like my friends at Plank, and even more so 37Signals, to single out two of the decent ones. But the big shops – they display nothing but complete ignorance of the web; which, in 2004, is equal to ignorance of the media and marketing world in general.

Technorati on CNN:

Dave Sifry has just announced that Technorati will be providing an assist to CNN during their coverage of the Democratic National convention. Sifry and others will be on-air using the tools to follow the emerging stories and such. Computer stuff always looks stunted and odd on the box, but I hope this works out well for them. The site will be at politics.technorati.com during the convention.

Intentionally Bad Writing.

Intentionally Bad Writing.

The annual Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest winners have been announced, and a woman from Beaconsfield (a suburb of Montreal) wsa named runner up to the grand prize. You can see the entire 2004 Results here. If you’re not familiar with the contest, here’s the basic idea: “An international literary parody contest, the competition honors the memory (if not the reputation) of Victorian novelist Edward George Earl Bulwer-Lytton (1803-1873). The goal of the contest is childishly simple: entrants are challenged to submit bad opening sentences to imaginary novels.”
