Cam Barrett isn’t very keen

Cam Barrett isn’t very keen

about podcasting. I have to say I share his concerns. In the past week or so I’ve been looking into podcasting and I’ve listened to a bunch of podcasts, and I just don’t get it. I see it as a novelty – fun, but ultimately not as useful or interesting as blogging. Plus, the content is invisible to search engines, doesn’t allow for hyperlinks, and frankly I don’t get any heightened sense of “personality” or immediacy than I do from people’s written blog entries.

I haven’t read the Barrett article, but I wonder exactly what you mean by “podcasting.” If you’re referring simply to audio blogs, then yes, it’s a gimmick and not very interesting. But some podcasts are like radio shows, with interviews, several people talking on a subject, etc. Those can be quite interesting and I see a lot of potential there.
