Coin Cointing?

Coin Cointing?

Lazyweb: does anyone know of an automatic coin counting service anywhere in the Montreal area? Something like Coinstar? I have hundreds of dollars of change I’d love to get out of my hair, but it would take at least a full day to count it all.

It’s amazing keeping coinage in your hair, a natural talent I have.

You’d be surprised how quickly you can count change. I have a change-hoarding thing too (in my case it’s deliberate) and once or twice a year I count out and roll about $700 in loonies and twoonies. It takes about 30 minutes. That’s an hourly rate I can live with. (Similarly, I can roll $100 in quarters in something like 20 minutes.)

As you get into nickels and dimes your return on (time) investment goes way down. Forget about pennies — throw them in a jar and use it as a door stop.

Alternative plan for loonies, twoonies, and quarters: lug them to the Casino and pretend that you won them. I.e., just bring them to the cashier (sorted) with a big smile on your face.

Oh god… Not you too, Mikel! Why don’t you use this change on a daily basis instead of saving it and then being stuck with it?

I’ve got an idea: You and Blork can get together with a bottle of something and roll all night long! Make it a yearly event!

I don’t use it because it means carrying it around in my pockets. If I had a man-purse I’m sure I would keep it with me, but I don’t, hence the jar into which I empty pockets every night!

Walk along Ste-Catherine eastward from Guy and by the time you got to Place des Arts all your change will have been taken away from you by panhandlers.

I have a chronic change issue myself, but the worst is the change you bring home with you from foreign parts. It’s money – you can’t throw it away – the money exchanges won’t take it – you might go there again – you’re stuck with it.
