Small fresh cucumbers, with fleur de sel and black pepper. I could live on those for the entire summer.

Mmmm! Squirt a little lemon juice on those too – even better!

N and I have also been enjoying greek salads – fresh tomatoes, cukes, onions, feta and black olives, with or without lettuce.

Fresh-fruit trifle with angel cake and whipped cream. Mmmm…

I’ve had it up to here with Fleur de sel. Sure, it’s a good salt – but it doesn’t need to go on everything. The best summer food, better than anything, including your vegtable sadwiches and cukes, is corn. Sweet, fresh corn, picked no more than a few hours ago, grilled in the husk, and slathered with butter and salt. Regular salt – no need for fleur de sel.

Gazpacho. The Persian cucumber-yogurt cold soup at the Byblos caf. Fruit popsicles. Raspberries. Watermelon. Caprese salad with leaves from your own basil plant. Perfect tuna salad with no celery.

One tomato, cut into 12 wedges.
One bocconcino cheese, cut into 12 slices
    12 slices of venetian prosciutto

Wrap prosciutto around tomato and bocconcino slices, arrange in flat bottom bowl, sprinkle salt, pepper, dried basil, chopped green onions. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

    Enjoy. :)

Classic prosciutto and melon is good too. Yet another reason to spend time at Jean-Talon market this time of year.
