UnFriendster. There are lots of reasons to quit Friendster, this latest one is simply the most recent good excuse to even take the time to bother.

is such a mess. LinkedIn makes it almost impossible to find anyone you know or to contact them when you have. Orkut is a toy with amateurish online forum offerings. But Ryze is by far the worst of them all. It is no more than the Classmates.com of the space, with endless pitches (luckily you can control the email you receive), but with no ability to browse people. They’re basically trying to force users to upload their Outlook address book, which is a joke. And the users themselves - it’s a bunch of Herbalife and other pseudo-pyramid losers trying to hook people into a scam. Screw that.

Will you be my friend? Trying to tease something out of the void that the social networking sites have become. So far it seems that the folks at Flickr are the only ones who have a clue. The rest of them - Tribe, LinkedIn, Friendster, Orkut - seem to have a classic case of high-ego startup syndrome, suggesting that they actually believe they’re smarter than everyone else and can actually do it all themselves with limited if any interoperability. I hope to be proven wrong.
Screw Friendster!

Jim Cashel’s Online Community Report for years now - since issue 1 - by email, but I hadn’t been by the site in a while. What was once just an afterthought (or so it seemed) has become quite an impressive site that has expanded as the concept of Virtual Community has expanded as well. It now covers social networks and many of the other new kinds of virtual community. Worth a look.
