The Real Story of JPG Magazine. Derek has left the company he created after they tried to rewrite history by changing it’s origins story - including removing all references to Heather’s crucial involvement in the founding of the magazine. What a crappy story.
Update: the remaining founder of 8020 Publishing has posted about the departure, though his post is more notable for what wasn’t written than what was.

Calling All Designers: Learn to Write! I only partially agree with him, but the sentiment is right on the money. For me, everyone in the process should have something intelligent to say about everyone else’s area of expertise.

SXSW Interactive again this year and has posted a great summary of a panel session called “The Future of Darknets”: SXSW to MPAA: STFU. The panel featured a representative of the MPAA, among others. Also check out the links to the MP3 of the session and some video clips. Powazek didn’t just write a summary, though, he added important commentary as well. One quote:

got married. Heather communicates in pictures, Derek communicates in words. Something fitting about that.

Derek Powazek put up his pictures from SXSW. I’m new to weblogging and sort of an outsider considering that my web life isn’t really as a designer but in content and management (and of course virtual communities), so I didn’t feel the deep yearning to go there that some did. But Derek’s pics are beautiful, and really show off a lovely group of folks.
